My friend Tim made two very good arguments the other day for sometimes having half beers, and I thought I’d share them!
Numero uno:
With all the craft beer makers out there trying to distinguish themselves with a gazillion different flavors in the beers, it can sometimes get a bit overwhelming… and what is enjoyable at first sip can become too much by the end of a full pint. But, a half beer (which, btw, most ‘good’ bars will offer if you ask!) will let you enjoy the brewers creativity without risking overexposure!
Numero dos:
ABV – it’s just too much!!! lol These beers are definitely yummy and there’s SO much great stuff out there that we want to try, but at 6, 7, 8… 11% Alcohol By Volume??? No way, man! Especially not on a school night! If you’re not familiar, lemme s’plain it to you…
Bud Light – 4.2% ABV
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale – 5.7% ABV
Stone IPA – 6.9% ABV
Bigger %age = more alcohol = you’re getting drunk a heckuva lot quicker… so while knocking back 3 Bud Lights might be fine for you… the same 3 Stone IPAs might literally knock you on your arse… so be careful 😉
Bottom line? where there’s either a high percentage and/or potentially strong flavors afoot, have it…. but halve it 😉
