Presenting: Back East Brewing Company!

17 Aug

As I mentioned in my preview post last week, this past Saturday was the official launch party of Connecticut’s newest brewery – Back East Brewing Company!

Located in Bloomfield, CT, Back East was founded by cousins Tony Karlowicz and Ed Fabrycki, who started homebrewing together back in 2006. Since then they have experimented with and perfected their homebrew recipes, and a few years ago began to put a plan in place to open their own brewery. This weekend was the culmination of all of their hard work over the past 6 years! Continue reading

Guest Post – Oregon Brewers Festival Review

14 Aug

Behold, the first GUEST POST on The Hops Honey blog! So, who is the lucky author?! It is none other than my kick-ass step-father, Timmy McKane!

Timmy and I sharing some Life & Limb at Dogfish Head!

My mom married Timmy when I was 13, and after I started getting into craft beer in my late 20s, so did Timmy… and we found yet another wonderful way to expand our ‘kid-parent’ relationship into a friendship! Continue reading

Next up from Brooklyn Brewery’s Brewmaster Reserve Series…

Gold Standard Export Kellerbier

Last Tuesday, Rebecca and I once again headed out to Hipster-central [aka, Williamsburg], for one of Brooklyn Brewery’s Brewmaster Reserve release parties! As usual, it was a blast (and no, not just the beer… though that was on tap as well, and I was a good little Hops Honey & capped myself at 2!)… and while I don’t write about every one of these events that I go to, I felt like too much time had passed since I’d waxed poetic about how glorious these events are! So… settle in & prepare to seethe with envy 🙂 Continue reading

Beer Tastings + Museum visit = awesome!!

25 Apr Source: http://www.nyhistory.org/node/589/gallery/73264

Imagine my delight, when into my inbox dropped a news release from the New-York Historical Society about their upcoming exhibition, which I brought y’all up to speed on last month?! But wait, it gets better… this news release wasn’t just reminding us about the exhibition… oh no… it was heralding the upcoming series of beer tastings they’re hosting in conjunction with the exhibition! And, of course, they’re featuring New York State breweries! Genius! Continue reading

1 parade, 3 brew-pubs, 5 hours… What up, Detroit?!

29 Mar

Yet again, I’ve been away from blogging for a while… but the reason this time is very much in my favor – I was searching for a  new job and, I’m super stoked to say that, I got one! After six years working for the non-profit ACWIS, I’ve moved back into the for-profit world and secured a position as an Administrative Assistant at consulting firm AlixPartners! It’s a really good move for me in a number of ways… one of which was that I got the opportunity to travel to Michigan for new-hire orientation!

So, what’s the first thing a craft beer-lover does when learning of a trip to a new city?!?! Why ask about the craft beer scene, of course! 🙂 Continue reading

My friend Rebecca just brought to my attention a new exhibit that will be debuting at the New-York Historical Society Museum & Library in May, called Beer Here: Brewing New York’s History! I’ve been to the NYHS once before and absolutely loved it, but THIS is a fantastic reason to go back for another visit! FL > NYC Roadtrip, Part 1 – Gainesville HOB!

28 Oct

Remember how I said that all the details of this random FL trip fell perfectly into place?! Well, part of that included the puzzle piece of seeing my good friend Amie… at her new [AWESOME] place of employment… the Gainesville House of Beer!

SOURCE: https://www.facebook.com/#!/GvilleHOB

Once I knew I was headed to Gainesville, I sent a message to Amie to let her know (so that she could clear her calendar, obviously), and when she wrote back, she informed me that the official Grand Opening of the GNV HOB was the exact Friday night that I was going to be in town! Perfect! 🙂 Continue reading
