Beach Vaca + Brewery Visit = Summer Perfection!

28 Aug

Ye olde Hops Honey is *very* nostalgic, and *loves* tradition… and one of my FAVORITE traditions in the whole entire world, is my family’s annual beach vacation to Cape May, NJ! My first time there was when I was 9 months old… and since then, there have only been 2 years that I have NOT gone to Cape May for a summer beach vacation!

Anywho… last year, Southern New Jersey welcomed its first and only craft brewery in… yup,  you guessed it – Cape May!!! Continue reading

Presenting: Back East Brewing Company!

17 Aug

As I mentioned in my preview post last week, this past Saturday was the official launch party of Connecticut’s newest brewery – Back East Brewing Company!

Located in Bloomfield, CT, Back East was founded by cousins Tony Karlowicz and Ed Fabrycki, who started homebrewing together back in 2006. Since then they have experimented with and perfected their homebrew recipes, and a few years ago began to put a plan in place to open their own brewery. This weekend was the culmination of all of their hard work over the past 6 years! Continue reading

1 parade, 3 brew-pubs, 5 hours… What up, Detroit?!

29 Mar

Yet again, I’ve been away from blogging for a while… but the reason this time is very much in my favor – I was searching for a  new job and, I’m super stoked to say that, I got one! After six years working for the non-profit ACWIS, I’ve moved back into the for-profit world and secured a position as an Administrative Assistant at consulting firm AlixPartners! It’s a really good move for me in a number of ways… one of which was that I got the opportunity to travel to Michigan for new-hire orientation!

So, what’s the first thing a craft beer-lover does when learning of a trip to a new city?!?! Why ask about the craft beer scene, of course! 🙂 Continue reading

Two Breweries, For the Price of One!

1 Aug

Hops Honey Log: Wednesday, March 31st

Location: Middlebury, VT – Otter Creek & Wolaver’s Breweries

It’s not everyday you get two for the price of one in the world of craft beer… well, ok… that’s not true, ’cause you’ve often got two-fer Tuesdays… but how often do you get to visit two breweries at once?!? Such is the joy that can be found in Middlebury, VT, the next stop on my VT Brewcation!  Once I left Long Trail, I headed West & North to Middlebury.

Planning a Beercation

13 Jul

Recently I got the chance to do something pretty cool – write a guest post for another website!!! Gerard from www.roadtripsforbeer.com had seen my posts on Twitter about beer-tripping it through Vermont, and asked if I’d be willing to do a post for his site about planning a beercation… and I was super excited to oblige! Check it out 🙂

Hops Honey Log: Wednesday, March 31st

Brewcation Stop #2: Long Trail Brewing Co. – Bridgewater Corners, VT

Ok, so I know that there’s been a bit of a lag between posts… and for that I apologize, but hey, life keeps happening & I just can’t seem to find a way to slow it down a bit… anyone got any suggestions?!? 😉  So, when you last visited The Hops Honey, she had just spent an amazing day helping fellow Hartwick alumn & brewer Patrick brew up a batch of IPA at Harpoon…
